"Paul Cooke tells it like it was in this first part of his story of Sade. Anyone contemplating a career in the music business, whether as a musician, artist or on the other side of the studio window, should read his book. The second part promises to be even more interesting....This is not fancy writing but it's from the heart....", (John Beecher, Roller Coaster Records).

Legal Cases
Connect with Paul for more information on what is available online regarding his music legal cases.
Paul commenced action against Sade in 1993 over unpaid song writing royalties on the album Diamond Life by the singer Sade. Paul was an unemployed musician at the time and he obtained legal aid. Paul managed to pursue Sade and Sony et al through the High Courts in London in 1995 with his claim to be an author on all of the songs he had performed on and co-wrote with the band between 1981 and 1984. However in 1997 his legal aid certificate was withdrawn by the senior solicitor attached to his case and Paul never got to fight his case in court with his solicitors. Further to this in 2009 and un supported by a solicitor Paul again took Sade to court in his home town of Hull, England to argue that he should be paid performance income from the USA which he has never been paid by Sade and Sony UK since 2000 and also the fact that his original drumming was removed from the song ‘Smooth Operator’ on one version and his drumming copied by session drummer David Early in 1984. Again this claim was struck out as Paul had no solicitor and couldn’t argue his case in court. Paul also around this time took the BBC to court over unpaid BBC Top of the Pops royalties from 1984 when he played ‘Your Love is King’ with the band on more than one occasion to promote the single. Paul settled this matter out of court with the BBC after discovering that the BBC had no part to play in this situation but that he had been miss-represented by the band Sade and the record company at the time? Fast forward to 2024 and Paul commenced a further legal action against Sade and Sony UK for a 20% share of the master rights from the Diamond Life album that he was involved with whilst in his band Sade. This time Paul was fully supported by solicitors with his action against Sade and he is now in the process of raising funds to take Sade and Sony to court in this respect. Paul’s new case against the band Sade and its record company can be found here https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/sade-and-sony-legal-action/ Paul’s aim is one of obtaining recognition for his work with his band Sade at the time and also to receive his dues from an album in the 1980’s that sold over 10 Million copies worldwide of which he was paid nothing. Please support Paul with pledges at ‘Crowdjustice’ so that he can assert his claim and finally argue his case against Sade and Sony in court to be a party to the product Diamond Life as one of its creators.
